Treibball: The Perfect Mix of Fun, Focus and Teamwork
If you’ve ever watched your dog light up when given a 'job to do,' you’ll understand why I’m so excited to be offering Treibball classes soon.
Treibball (pronounced 'try-ball') is a fun, low-impact dog sport that started in Germany. Originally created for herding dogs who needed an outlet for their natural instincts, it’s now enjoyed by dogs of all shapes and sizes around the world.
In simple terms, Treibball is a bit like football - but instead of chasing the ball, dogs learn to push large exercise balls into a goal using their nose, guided by their handler’s directions. It’s calm, thoughtful, and surprisingly addictive once you get started!
Why dogs love Treibball
It gets their brains working
Treibball encourages dogs to think, plan and problem-solve. They learn to control their excitement, listen for cues and use gentle movements rather than speed. Many owners tell me that ten minutes of Treibball focus tires their dog out more than a long walk - and it’s easy to see why.
It’s great teamwork
This is a sport built on cooperation, not control. You and your dog work together using body language, voice and positive rewards. It strengthens communication and trust - and it’s lovely to watch a dog grow in confidence as they start to understand what’s being asked.
It’s gentle on the body
There’s no jumping, sharp turns or high impact, so Treibball is suitable for most dogs, from lively youngsters to older companions who still enjoy a challenge. It’s a brilliant option for those who love to learn but aren’t suited to faster sports like agility or flyball.
It’s 100% reward-based
Like all my training, Treibball is taught using kind, ethical methods. We use food, play and praise to motivate dogs, helping them learn through success and fun. There’s no pressure, no shouting - just clear communication and teamwork.
Why I’m adding Treibball Classes
So many modern dogs were bred to think and work alongside people, but don’t often get the chance to do that in everyday life. Treibball provides that outlet in a way that’s safe, structured and positive.
It’s more than a sport - it’s enrichment, focus, and connection rolled into one.
Whether your dog needs a new challenge, struggles to switch off, or just enjoys learning, Treibball is a fantastic way to build confidence, strengthen your bond and have a lot of fun together.
I can’t wait to share it with you and your dogs - Treibball classes will be launching soon!
